I have never understood the need for worship either. Part of the need for praise comes from our human need and really has nothing to do with God. I think the same could be for why people feel they have to worship God.
Giving thanks, praising for a good job or in celebration of life itself and love seem to be all that are needed but not just worship because I must bow down before you. Worship in the bow down way would seem to seperate one from God rather than bring one closer to God, and keep one from truly loving God and being united with God.

The beauty of Christianity is we have a God who does not monopolize His Glory. He shares it with Anybody who come and seek Him and do His Will. He is the Head and the Church (not the building or a sect but whose heart seek Him) is the Body. The Head can not function (though HE CAN if He Will) without the Body. It is some kind of a situation that the Head commands the Body (or a particular part) to do a particular functions. So we see Missionaries on foot going to different places, Preachers mouthing the Gospel, etc. offering their bodies to the service of God which is the true worship. Only God knows the heart of a true worshipper...and He finds Pleasure in them and His Joy is the Strength of those who worship Him.
Hope this may give a special touch to everyone.

God doesn't need our praise. However, he does have desires that he chooses to let us satisfy. Imagine that.
You see, God has performed the most gracious acts of 1-creating mankind in a perfect home like the earth, 2-providing us with all our needs, 3- giving us free will, and 4- offering his son as a ransom sacrifice. His acts of undeserved kindness are innumerable.
Can you imagine what he went through watching his son being mistreated and tortured to death? It must have pained him very much to see his son suffer.
If we look at this one gift alone, God is worthy of our praise. When we humble ourselves and come to the point of genuine appreciation, we should be moved to automatically give him praise.
And, guess what. He gave us free will. And what do we do with it? Most of us don't give him that praise. People are constantly looking for great people - athletes, movie stars, preachers, politicians, and talk show hosts. But they make very little effort to praise God - sometimes going so far as to try to discredit his existence and belittle his followers. We can give God what he desires.
Jehovah is worthy of our praise. But he doesn't NEED it - he deserves it. It is our one and only gift that we can give to him - our sacrifice of praise.
Furthermore, the Bible describes how we can worship him in an acceptable way. Some of us decide for ourselves what God wants from us. We should all study the Bible and see how he wants us to worship him. Shouldn't we?

Christians don't worship God because He needs us to. God has blessed us with many things in this life, both spiritual and physical. Most of all, He has blessed us with the gift of salvation through Christ. When we worship, we're showing thankfulness and gratitude for how awesome He is and everything He's doing and will do in our lives. It's a form of gratitude, not something He NEEDS us to do. The Bible says that even if no one worshiped Him, the rocks and stones would cry out and sing.

The Christian God did not need worshipers! He never has needed or will ever need such.
I am sorry to say that you are pitifully unaware of what God and the Bible is all about. Come back with another question when you have finished Bible 101.

As a Hindu I do not believe God needs worshippers, but that through the act of worship (prayers, rituals, chants, etc) that we complete the cycle. What I mean is that Hindus believe that God manifested the entire universe from Itself and also still lies unmanifest beyond the universe. Whenever we worship we complete the cycle of the universe (that includes us) from manifested back to the unmanifested Oneness. Thus from the One to the many back to the One. It's not really for God, but part of the natural cycle (since it is God's nature to manifest universes from Itself....universes manifest outward, grow, and then merge back into God to then manifest outward, grow, and merge back).
Hope I explained that well.
Great question.
Peace be with you.

God Does not NEED our praises. He is perfect and complete without them. Like everything else God asks of us, it's for our benefit. When we worship we draw closer to God and He can interact with us on a level we understand more easily.

Religion is the opium of the masses. Praise is the smoke. Other then causing countless wars, making religious leaders rich and numb the masses, religion has never done anything positive in all of history. Religion is a cover up for terror, sodomy and war mongering politicians and always based on pure fiction. For instance, there is not one single mention of Jesus, despite the Romans sophisticated reporting of that time. Mohamed was a brutal Neanderthal with a liking for 10 year old girls. The bible, written between 600 and 1200 A.D. has such ridiculous contradictions, that anybody can read anything in it, using the right sentence. Why anybody believes in that crap boggles my mind.

Our purpose is to be worshippers, both here on earth and also in Heaven. This is my official answer...
But on the side, it is this kind of question that ticks me off about legalism. You legalists scream about how unfair it is that God does it this way or that way, you nitpick every little thing about God trying to disprove Him ....
Then ask a question like this ... if He really truly is who He claims to be, why does He need to be worshipped? I mean, jeesh! If He really is who He says He is, doesn't He DESERVE the worship? Think about it for a minute, you want your fair share of everything, but refuse God His.

God doesn't need our worship and praise. We do it because it makes us feel closer to Him. He delights when we want to be near Him and seek His love. As a parent, I know what my child needs and I don't need to be thanked or asked, but when I am being thanked, it feels good. Same with God. He loves us no matter what. By singing and praising Him we show Him our gratitude and faith in Him.
