The first thing I would do is take them to your local pet store and have their wings clipped. While there ask to observe how it's done then do it yourself. It's very easy to do but this is more of a visual thing to see for yourself. It will cost between 10 and 15 US dollars.

Sounds pretty uncaring, birds need exercise to be healthy... and to be happy, would you be happy not being allowed to walk about freely sometimes.... and its in birds nature to fly so it makes them unhappy never being able to do so and imprisoned in a cage all day!! Why get a bird if you dont have a suitable environment where it can exercise??? thts just cruel... and if you were thinking of wing clippimng contrary to wht some silly posters say its v cruel as hinders what comes naturally to them i.e. flying and if u tried to do it ureself u cd seriously hurt them!!!

This makes me so mad.....Why does every body want to clip the birds wings. They are meant to fly, just as we are meant to walk. They should be trained. Parrots are easier to train than dogs. There are plenty of good books around on training parrots. Once trained they do not need wings clipped.

They are meant to fly, why would you want to stop them?
If you cant handle the feathers and mess, then find them a new home and think carefully before you get another pet.

Some just don’t tend to fly much, but for the others, you need to clip certain parts of their wings regularly.

Clip their wings. I have a parakeet and I clip his wings by holding him in a towel and clipping with a pair of nail scissors (I find the big scissors freak him out!). Hope this helps!

How do you prevent them from flying? Clip their wings. It doesn't hurt them at all if you do it right.
