I could go into several explanations as to why closed minded individuals would do something like this. Now before a huge arguement ensues, by close-minded I mean those who are not open to the possibility that the human mind and the direction of energy can bring about changes.

Instead I am going to respond to one of the "answers". Prove to you that "prayer" works? Ok, I will try.

The prayer itself is just a sequence of comfort words used by the one praying. It is the intent and energy behind it that is doing the work.

No matter what religious path you walk, each has its own version of prayer, be it pep talks you give yourself, prayer using beads, or in church, meditation to direct energy, asking Divinity for aid in a matter, it is all a form of prayer.

As I stated above, those are just the words, and the words themselves are really pointless with out the strength of heart behind it.

Ever seen Reiki performed? Not hands on Reiki, but distance Reiki. With the practiononer in one place and the reciever in another? Well that is a form or prayer, if you boil it down to its basics, one person is thinking on something for another, be it headache relief, emotional relief, or whatever, and through the power of thought, and directing energy the other person can feel it when it is received.

Prayer is just a way of focusing oneself, to direct energy for one intent or another.

Those of you who mock prayer, take a look at your daily lives, do you buy lottery tickets? To you hope for that really good promotion? Do you wish for health for your family and friends? Do you hope for a loved one to get better when they are ill? You may not pray to a specific Deity, you may not believe in a higher power such as God, or the Goddess, but you do indeed "pray".

To those who have asked for prayer? Know that there are those of us out here, regardless of religious beliefs who will send you the support and energy that you need.

I'm an atheist and I have never spouted off about religion when I see someone requesting prayers. In fact, if someone does request prayer then I usually say a prayer to THEIR God for THEM. I may not believe in what they do but if it makes them feel better then I'm happy to oblige.

While I do agree this is not a forum for prayer requests, I also do not believe that there is a need for anyone who claims to be a mature adult to slam the person making the request.

This is a forum to ask questions. It is not the prayer request section of a church bulletin board.. If you don't want an open forum with diverse opinions, maybe this isn't the place for you.

You can't expect too much from liberals. They may at times appear happy on the outside, but they're truly miserable individuals on the inside and project that misery on to anyone with a more positive outlook on life-usually Christians.
