Anybody know of any ways to help a college kid with insomnia. (no, I do not party. I just like to stay up late reading and surfing the web.)

Take a look at your schedule. Look at the times of your classes, work, study times and so forth. the two main things to work around are your classes and your work schedule if you work. Make a chart, write down class A on these days/times, class B, on these days/times, and so on, and work on these days and times. Then fit in time for reading class material, studying, and doing homework. then put down which days you have time for doing laundry, grocery shopping, and so forth. Then you know when you can fit in your surfing the web and other reading. You know how much sleep you need. Everyone is different. Make sure your in bed by a certain time each night so that you can get the sleep you need. But if you still have a hard time sleeping after some time of trying this, than you need to go see your doctor and they would be able to help you out.

The glare from the comp screen can sort of trick your body into thinking its daytime. You need to get off the comp about an hour before you plan on going to bed. Then since you like to read, read for that hour with a dim light. I'm a mom of two kids. I also suffer from insomnia and when I do actually fall asleep I'm an extremely light sleeper, so any little movements my kids make (yes they sleep in their own rooms, but I still hear them) wake me up. Some nights when I'm so exhausted from not sleeping for a few days, I just give in and take a dose of Nyquil. It knocks me out soundly for around eight hours. I still wake up to big noises, but it numbs my brain to the smaller ones.

Hope you feel better.

I know of a silly way, but it's helped me in the past. It basically entails you to relax by simply concentrating. Pick a number or a letter or anything simple. Picture it in your mind and only that. You'll feel a little nuts, but if you concentrate hard enough you'll soon find yourself waking up from a very fulfilling sleep. Exercising and a good diet help too.

Well try meditation and maybe that will let you relax enough, or try getting a long soothing massage, or take some erb tea before you go to bed that will relax you, also you can try warm milk and cookies, if not just try what I do to sleep good. Have sex and make it last long so you will be tired and you will sleep well. But you need to cut your time on surfing the net and try streching exercising too before you go to sleep, Or if you need a bedtime story IM me or e-mail me anytime.
