you are going to have a wonderful time as long as you are open minded and willing to try an extremely unique culture. some people think koreans are rude, etc. etc. but it's really not true. it's just what korean culture is.. seoul is absolutely amazing! the shopping is great there.. lots of street vendors, and good food too!! try anything and everything you can; that's the only way you will be able to truly experience korea!! and it's great that you know the language! that will definitely come in handy.. make sure you learn how the subways and buses work. (and taxis too, although most ppl use the subways and buses..they're much more fun to experience anyway..) there are also a lot of historical places you can visit too, and beautiful scenery! there are random mountains everywhere! one thing that i have to warn you about are some of the public restrooms.. i'm pretty sure that in recent years, this number has gone down quite a bit but there are public restrooms where the toilets are on the ground. (not your regular toilets.. if you haven't grown up there, you probably will have a hard time adjusting..)
but the most important i can give you is to be open!! have fun!

It depends upon the reason why you are going there. If you're taking a job, then your knowledge of the language is very helpful. If you're a native English speaker it will also be a plus because there are a lot of schools looking for one. The food and the culture might be a shock at first but you'll get used to it. Just be polite especially to the elders. South Korea is a good country so make the best out of your time there!:-)

How about one fantastic reason for a travel event while in South Korea?

I strongly recommend you taking the DMZ tour at Panmunjom.

This is an escorted tour to the Demilitarized Zone, that separates South from North Korea.

You will come face to face with North Koreans, who are trained from birth to hate you, and will kill you without hesitation if told to do so.

You will get Goosebumps numerous times while there.

I have taken this tour previously; it's spooky !!

But, it's very informative. If you're lucky on the day you go, you might be able to stand on the North Korean side (inside) of the building which held the Armistice talks. (This is about 12 feet inside North Korea, just past the geographical 38th Parallel.)

You will constantly have North Korean Guards stare at you through the windows, with pure hatred in their eyes.

If the opportunity presents itself, definitely purchase for yourself one of the DMZ Barbwire Plaques. These were issued on the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War. Be sure you get one with a serial number!!

I believe they will become extremely valuable once North Korea implodes upon itself.

No no longer with out Korea making the primary transfer which might be it is final, must North Korea instantly assault the U.S or any of it is allies that might supply them rationale to invade and dismantle the regime. But each time the U.S moves first the arena most often will get disappointed and calls it conflict mongering, so very nearly the west will handiest be passive till North does whatever. However the Americans have made it very transparent that aggression from the north will influence in it being the final conflict at the Korean peninsula.

Life is pretty easy if you are white and in Korea. If you speak Korean you shouldn't have any trouble at all. If you are an ethnic Korean, you may have some trouble because you'll be expected by some to understand Korean cultural norms because it is supposed to be in your "blood." But you'll have fun anyway.
