coughing is not a good thing, could mean a heart problem. some people say eating grass is a way to make up for the lack of vegetables in their diets, others say they eat grass when they feel sick as kind of a natural "syrup of ipecac".

The coughing could be a result of congestive heart disease, quite common with Cockers. However the grass eating thing suggests something related to the stomach. It would need an inspection from a vet.

Kennel cough.
Older dogs often have weak stomachs and although they naturally eat grass it may be eating it to aid a digestive problem it's having. The grass is nothing to worry about unless its vomiting.
But the cough could be kennel cough which itmay have caught off a neighbours dog or out walking.

Could be a number of things. I'm not a smart as a vet by any means but it sounds like she is having stomach problems or maybe her teeth are bad and she can't chew her food enough to digest. My friends dog did something like this and ended up having kidney stones. Thank goodness you sister is taking her to the vet. Good Luck!

I'm definitely not a vet and don't know but she could have something stuck in her throat and the grass is soothing it. Have you noticed noticeably worse breath. Had a friend who's dog went off it's feed and breath was atrocious here she had gotten into garbage and had a piece of bone lodged in the roof of her mouth.

When a dog feels sick they do eat grass and it seems to settle things down for
them. But a vet would be the best to make a diagnosis. Let us know what
is wrong with the dog.

i would get her checked out by a vet she doesn't feel well that is why she is eating grass,it doesn't sound like kennel cough which can be deadly.
