I downloaded a pc game and a Direct X 5.0 programm is required.Which direct x do I download? (The site opened about a zillion different ones!)

deending what operating system you have already
if its xp that you have it will have dx9 anyways
try and update through ms website
or start /all programs / at teh very top "microsoft update"
make sure all is updated and you may have to reboot your pc
then try the game

I'm using DirectX 9.x on XP. If you have Vista try 10. It should be backwards compatible.

try to download direct x 9.0c ..it among the latest directx files ...dont bother searching for directx 5
