I am an honest, hard working, mild mannered, American citizen. It has been awhile since I flew (I didn't have to take off my shoes last time... it was still optional).

Within a couple weeks I'll be going on a trip with my family and having to deal with these new assinine rules. Just thinking of them gets me upset. Why should I have to take off my shoes and walk barefoot over an area that many many others have walked with their dirty, sweaty feet? I resent the fact that we are treated like we are guilty of something just because we want or feel we need to fly on a commercial airplane. Americans put up with the manure every day.

Benjamin Franklin said that "those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither".

Making us jump thru hoops lets the bad guys win. They think we are cowards.

Besides drinking heavily so I don't care anymore (but then wouldn't be allowed to fly), what can I do to not say something I'd regret to the TSA person who is 'just doing their job'?

In an attempt to appear politically correct it seems the TSA considers octogenarian grandmothers, toddlers and female twenty-something blue-eyed blonds of northern European decent wearing Adidas warm-up suits as terrorists: or maybe they just want to see accessories like my bracelet and chain. Nevertheless, it happens every time. Meanwhile a gentleman riding a flying carpet and wearing a turban through the TSA line is whisked through unmolested.

As good citizens we are required to say that all this preflight hassle is "for our own safety." In fact it costs a fortune, does little to enhance actual homeland security and bogs down the airport boarding process. In the end just take a deep breath and go with flow. The only other alternative- coming soon- is the "naked x-ray!"

You can wear socks...when taking off your shoes and if you feel you are going to say something you'll regret, you can take one off and stuff it in your mouth...lol. Basically I agree...the security is just a front to keep the public feeling safe. You wouldn't believe what I have seen not get through TSA but people can buy on the other side of them. When traveling with your family it's better to just set a good example and show them that patience is better than getting stripped searched or getting your neat packing all undone for a throrough search. Plus these are people with a job, don't take it personal. Want a change, write your congressmen.

Keep quiet. Those people have ZERO sense of humor. Who can blame them? But, you are right that there are many parts of security that are laughable. I travel alot, between the east and west coast. Now we aren't allowed to carry liquid or gel in excess of a few ounces. So, one by one, the TSA people lift the sunblock, toothpaste, water bottles, etc... I am assuming that they must assume that each and every item over 4 ounces is an explosive. So, if that's the case, why are their trash bins full of these confiscated liquids just sitting there? Does the TSA ever go through this crap to find out if they stopped anything? It seems to me to be a bad band-aid.

Having said all that... you need to go with the flow. Keep quiet, and if you are skeeved out by the bare feet on the carpet, you can leave your socks on and if you are really a germ-o-phobe, wear two pairs of socks and once you clear security, you can remove the second paid and trash can them...

The rules are there for a reason. Like the person above said, I would much rather be checked out like that, to know I'm safe. God only knows who is walking onto a plane that has some sort of explosive strapped to whatever part of their body.

Please just remember that these TSA employees are trying to keep you safe in the air. Since they are not allowed to profile, you may be in for a bag search. I am a 36 year old white female traveling with a child and have had my bag checked. I don't mind because it is all a part of the process. I say, it's fine to check my shoes and my bag and please check the everyone elses for my safety. Not all terrorists look like Mohammed Atta.

You really need to lighten up a bit. Yes, it's a hassle, but I'd rather go through that than let a terrorist slip through.

More importantly, you've got a much higher risk of exposing yourself to germs by the things you touch, than you could ever dream of by walking a few feet barefoot. I'm sure my feet are tougher than yours, but I never touch my face or mouth with them, like we all do with our hands.

Wash your hands, and be careful, and quit worrying about your feet.

First of all get over your self. The rules are there to protect you and your family. To have such a miopic view of security just illistrates your high level of self absorbtion. Wear mules or slip-ons, watch how EVERYONE ELSE has to go through it and have a nice day.
