Dyonisius was a cruel king in Syracus (Sicily). Damocles was envious of Dyonisius and he was always saying "How lucky you are. You have everything. You must be so happy". Dionysius became tired of hearing this and agreed to change places with Damocles for a whole day. Damocles enjoyed all the riches for a day. He happened to look up and saw a sharp sword dangling on the ceiling just over his head. It was attached to the ceiling by a single horsehair. Damocles was too terrified to move. He kept repeating "That sword. That sword!" Dionysius explained to Damocles that he has a sword hanging over his head every day; every day he risks having someone or something cut the single horsehair. Damocles never again wanted to change places even with a king.
