You can't spot target, so in order to loose the belly fat, first cut out sugars from your diet.

Sit ups can help, but you are better off doing crunches and keeping active.

Your body won't be too skinny, because it won't loose too much weight.

Your body weight plateus, so it knows when to stop losing weight, just stay healthy.

The only way you will get too skinny is if you get bulimic or anorexic.

Targeting just one area of the body sounds like a good idea but it actually doesn't work. You could do thousands of sit up or crunches and all they would do it to tighten the stomach muscles, you'll still have a layer of fat on top of them.

What you need is a 2 step approach.
First you will have to diet. Now since the rest of your body is already where you want it, your not going to have to go on a strict diet, just continue to watch what you eat like you have been. The only difference is that you are going to shave approximately 50 calories per day off of your current diet.

50 calories isn't much at all. That's about 1/3 of a can of soda. This very slow weight loss will allow you to lose fat in the area that you have the most of--your belly. Now if you were going on a strict diet you would lose fat from allover which you don't want.

The second step is to tighten your stomach muscles. Upper, lower and oblique. By targeting 3 sets of muscles and not just 2 (like you would with sit-ups) you will tighten the entire mid-section including the hip area. This will give you a flatter look then if you just exercised the upper & lower abs.

You'll need to start out slowly, using slow controlled movements. This pushes your muscles to work harder.
You will also need to rotate your exercises so that all the muscles get an equal turn. Sit-up and crunches only target one area and if you do them wrong you will actually push your belly out, which is exactly opposite of what you want to achieve.

You can get an idea of what kind of exercises you should be doing along with dieting information from a free report which is listed at the site below. Just scroll down half the page until you see free fitness report. This should give you a great start
to getting rid of some belly fat.

Good Luck!

You have to lose the fat there, but sit-ups will help to shape the abs. Also do some crunches.

Well situps and crunchs will work also make sure you strech before so you won't hurt as much when exercising. also walking and running helps because your fat will be replaced with muscle.
