Afterall, in addition to being partof my religion, babies without fingernails suffer fewer instances of scratched corneas, have less bacteria on their hands, and don't get ingrone nail infections.

Excellent questions. And amazingly people miss the sarcasm of the question and blindly defend circumcision with no valid basis for their arguments.

Circumcision the CHOICE of the parent? LMAO How pathetic.
Why not let the kid decide on his OWN body when he's 15?

Circumcision does not prevent penile cancer.
Circumcision does not prevent cervical cancer in the female partners of circumcised men.
Circumcision does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
Circumcision does not prevent AIDS or HIV infection.
Circumcision DOES NOT IMPROVE penile hygiene.
Circumcision does not prevent infections.
Circumcision does not prevent urinary tract infection.
Circumcision is NOT PAINLESS.
Circumcision does not prevent masturbation.

But hey, god said jump off the bridge so we follow.

About 80 percent of the world's population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. Among the non-circumcising nations are Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, the U.S.S.R., China, and Japan.

although you sound a bit desperate and crazy you have a good point.in America circumcision is the accepted norm for newborn males. yet in 1996 a whole contingent of american politicians including Hilary clinton went to Nepal to protest the same type of thing being done on girls. Citing it as an act of deformation.
I refused to approve it for my sons when they were born and both times i had doctors try to talk me into it.
I veiw it thus: 1.my child was born with a foreskin .2.God no longer demands this as sign of obediance 3.If as an adult my child decides he doesnt want it then he can have it removed. It wasnt my right to make that choice for him.
so to me it is an act of deformation and shouldnt be practiced as a normal procedure but as a personal choice issue like plastic surgery or piercings and tatoos.a choice made by a consenting adult.

Circumcision is also the choice of the parent. Doctors (at least in America) do not force you to have this done to your son. They ask you and if you say yes then they do it. The fingernail thing you may want to look into a bit more. You have forgotten that they will grow back (people have lost fingertips and the tip and the nail comes back) but before they do, you will experience lots of screaming from the baby so expect to be awake for the next 2 months.

These days a person can get away with nearly anything for the sake of "religion". Those who use religion to get what they want are not in any way "religious" but simply juggling the system to their own ends. Maybe you don't know but circumcision is not a religious practice. The need/requirement for it, especially in biblical times had underlying health/medical issues. The people of the day bathed infrequently and the foreskin harbored all kinds of bacteria which could lead to (sometimes debilitating) disease. Although we wash more often today, the circumcision serves the same purpose. So please don't blame circumcision on religion of any kind.

I think that you should do what you want, however I think that you should remove your own finger nails first so you can test this theory for a year or two before removing your child's? what do you think?Or you could wait until your child reaches an age of discernment an allow them to choose for themselves? Or you could think about it for a while and ask yourself why your creator put those finger nails there ?
Circumcision is a personal choice today. We are no longer living under the Mosaic Law code.

Nails grow back! Most circumcisions have nothing to do with religion, simply a preference.

YEs; the minute you can get a one time operation for that legalized. Otherwise be prepared for deserved child abuse charges.

Circumcision is also a practical concern, to do with the ease of keeping clean and infection free in very hot parts of the world.

circumcision is not only a religious decision - many african countries still practice circumcision as a part of their ritualisation into manhood. yes and it has also been scientifically proven to lessen the chances of spreading STD's as well as HIV/AIDS. its not barbaric, its simply a choice! if you dont like it, dont do it! simple as that!
