all religious people suffer from this condition that i call 'god in my pocket'
now if i scratch god/allah's backside he will scratch mine is what religious people say.
and i ask, why should any god need human beings to defend him?
the muslim god even says that anyone who ridicules him should be killed
why do these god's/allah's need human help if they are so powerful?

That's a really good question. I believe that God/gods/Allah (or other spiritual superior being that people believe in) do not need affirmation and defending.

The superior being desires a strong connection with us. In the process, we do praise Him/him/her/it and end up defending His/his/her/it to non-believers. I can't speak for the Qua'ran, The Book of Mormon, or other holy books, but in the Bible, God's people praised Him. It was a tradition that was passed down, and Jesus Christ spoke of praising the Father when He came to earth. The superior being does not need us....we need it.

In my belief they don't need us, they want us because God loves us so much that he would do anything for us. It's us who can't cope without him.
