I've just bought a Nikon D200 and I absolutely love it. Now I want to get a tripod but I'm not sure how much I should spend on one. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I spent about $150 on a Bogen/Manfrotto Tripod and Head.
The head will be your most expensive piece. I too have the D200 and love it. I use my Manfrotto Mono Pod more than the tripod for the work I do. You might want to check out the Nikonians site and ask your question there. http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

Spend at least $150 on a good tripod. Not any of that $30 crap from best buy. Bolgen makes really good tripods for $150. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=5138&A=details&Q=&sku=480320&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation this may be out of your range but its a good tripod.

I like Manfrotto tripods. I personally have a set of 055CLB legs with a 322RC2 side pistol grip head. I live in Australia so I can't really help you too much with price or place to buy.

For the head:

For the legs:

Is about the best I can do for reference

Hope this helps

the least perplexing thank you to respond to it somewhat is, verify the tripod can handle a minimum of two times the burden of your digicam and any lens or accessory you mount on it. sturdy high quality tripods are no longer that costly once you have self belief approximately it fairly helps your $six hundred.00 or extra digicam. Anything made by manfrotto, giottos, velbon or if you're feeling flush Kirk.

have a look at the warehouse express site, you'll find all the best brands there - but be warned, some of them are heart failure money!

$30 should do the job. Any mid-weight tripod.

I made my own by welding three golf clubs together. There are a range of club lengths to choose from too, from Sand-Wedges to 1-irons, so you can get the height just right.

You may want to weld a sardine-tin or some old pliers to the top too. Good luck.

Really Depends what you want to use it for, i use a gorilla pod SLR, and it is excellent to attach to trees, bench's etc. in the out doors but can be limited sometime in doors.

Bogen/Manfrotto makes the best stuff hands down. It will cost you but its worth every penny.
