Me and my boyfriend's going steady for more then 3years now. Yesterday he left and went to Sacramento to be with his mom. We decided to keep the relationship and he promised to visit me during the Christmas break. We agreed that we'd send each other e-mails and text messages, chat when we have time and call each other up on the phone.

How are we going to keep our relationship intact?
Is it true that long distance relationships don't usually work?

I already asked this question once but I think I need more satisfactory answers.

Thanks, guys. Please help me. I'm 19 and have been in the relationship for 3 years and 4 months. I'm afraid to lose him.

Him, his mom and his family assured me that everything would be okay between the two of us.

Calm down what will be will be. Stop worrying about other relationships that haven't worked and concentrate on yours. As long as you can still talk to him and you enjoy being with him then it should work. The key to a good relationship is trust if you don't trust that it's going to work then let him go. Good luck.

Everyone loves getting mail when it's not bills, right? My boyfriend & I live about 1000 miles away from each other. It's really hard to be romantic when you're that far away, & neither of you has very much money.

But what I do, just to let him know I'm thinking about him, I'll buy some stationary, & write poems on it, & send him one every so often, so he never knows when the next one is coming :-). Letters are just so much more fun then e-mails.

Even if you're not very good at writing poetry, there's other things you could do...
*draw a picture of the 2 of you together
*draw something you saw when you were last together
*get a poem from a famous author like Shakespeare
*get a picture of yourself that they haven't seen
*a personalized jigsaw puzzle, a couple pieces in each envelope
*just a simple little note that says "I miss you" or "thinking about you"
*a tape of you singing {or just talking if you don't want to sing}
*your favourite stuffed animal {I did this, & my boyfriend almost cried}
*writing on personalized stationary {scan a picture of the 2 of you, print it out, & write on the back}

There's millions of things you could do with this idea, & all for only the cost of the stamp. Some other ideas if you want to spend more money are
*glamour shots
*phone cards
*a card from a card store... they've got cards for every occasion!
Or you could even order flowers to go right to their door, which is a great way to start a week!

If you both love each other it should work. It's going to needs lots of trust though. Make sure you trust him and get him to trust you back.

Don't be too clingy over the phone and stuff. Yeah, he's going to be away for a long time, but when he does come home for Christmas break or even just to visit, then you can be all over him.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
