She's not lieing
It happened to me as a child and I told her about it.
It was an awful experience that made my mother very cross with my school.

Your details don't go along with your question. For the question a nun shouldn't be in the confessional period. For having him stand in front of everyone. That's not right and I went to Catholic school. But I guess that's up to his parents.
