It's not only in the North that the ice is melting, Dragon. There was a recent sighting of the largest iceberg ever seen off the coast of New Zealand. It was only 250 nm to the EAST, not South. Something which has never happened before. Then there was this Antarctic summer, a field of grass on the Antarctic peninsular, the weather was so warm. The pundits say that the sea level will rise anywhere from six inches to several feet, which will displace 120,000 homes around the coast of Australia alone, or so they tell me. I'm in the hills, so I'm OK. I just don't want all those seafarers up here any time soon!
AS for the natural gas, those people are only interested in monetary profit, and can't see past the next stock market crash.

93% of all f the planets water is salt
of the 7 remaning % of sweet water 75% was locked in glaziers, mountain snows and the poles,
a lot of this is now melted and has joined the salt waters in the seas gone forever as drinking water.

the planet has very little drinking water left and a lot of that is getting poluted
every year there are 70 milion more people and this number is rising

figure it out
there is now a race to the Poles to save some of the water and put it in tankers

I'm thinking you may need to do a little more research. Current data show that both the Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets are expanding. Additionally, most natural gas recovery operations are moving away from the northern areas to the much more lucrative (and easier to get to) reserves in and around the Carribean.
