What is the opinion of the theory of evolution in non western societies? Is it accepted or controversial?

In particular I would like to know what Muslims and Hindus believe.

In the United States it isn't as widely accepted as many other countries.

It's sad, really... our founding fathers established this nation with secular purposes in mind yet to have freedom of religion... and now we are the most religious country on the planet.

I blame this for the non-acceptance of evolutionary theory.

Most other places don't have any problem with it and many even think its funny American have such an issue about it.
