I've often heard that the tree Adam & Eve supposedly ate fruit from was the tree of knowledge.

Why would God want knowledge to be forbidden?

Isn't this just a story to discourage people from seeking the truth so that the powers that be of the time it was written could maintain control of the masses?

If it was forbidden then why put the tree there and why make them eat from it? It's just another ridiculous story from religious mythology.

Nothing in religion makes sense.

Scholars are divided about which story came first; the Babylonian story or the Genesis story. What is known is that both these cultuers share the same semitic heritage which is evidenced in their languages.

What we must remember is that similar stories more likely are derived from a shared cultural memory. The same can be shown of the Flood story. There are more than 300 stories from all over the globe describing a global flood. Many people say this casts doubt on the Genesis flood, but many more believe it is more likely that a global flood did occur at some time which is why reports of ancient global floods are present in almost every culture.

When comparing ancient texts, it is not always true that the oldest manuscript is the oldest story. There are other clues found in the language and the ways in which stories were transmitted. Cultures that used stone tablets are more likely to have written texts that have survived for thousands of years. Cultures that used papyrus or other less endurable forms of writing would be less likely to have manuscripts found intact.

ever watched a child run around while you sit there in wonderment over the innocence? ever wished you could have that kind of innocence back? that is how man was originally intended to be. i believe (tho this is just an assumption that i make and has no biblical bases)that eventually GOD would have taught man about right and wrong, you know, when he/she was mature enough to understand it. Man was still so young and needed time to graduate to the point where we would understand right and wrong and why it was so important to obey.
but in "eating from the tree of Knowelege of Good and Evil" man tried to accelerate his knowelege beyound his ability to understand.

k, that's my .02, hope it make sense to you.

No. God did not deny the right for the knowledge. God gave specific directions and He told what is going to happen if they will take fruit from that tree.

You have a free will. God wants you to use it wisely. : )

Knowledge was, is and will always be classified into good and evil.

Study Genesis carefully and you would see that God has already given Adam and Eve the knowledge of good but he did not give them the knowledge of evil, knowing that it would be counter-productive for their happiness.

Examples of giving Adam and Eve a lot of liberty and love:

1. Let Adam be master over all creation
2. Put Man above angels
3. Brought all the animals to Adam's presence and let Adam name them. Eventually, God would call these animals by the names Adam gave them
4. Gave Adam a suitable companion, before Adam even conceived the idea of a woman.
4. Adam and Eve did not have to toil.

As you can see, Adam and Eve not only had a lot of liberty, they also had knowledge of good. Can anyone justify to me that knowledge of evil is desirable in a world (at that time) with no evil?

For eg.

You have a young child who you know is mischievous and curious about the world. Would you want him to know about what you perceive as bad things in his young life? Would you pervert his mind by exposing him to pornography, hoping that he would turn away from it? Would u want him to learn that the boiling kettle burns by encouraging him touch it or would u constantly tell him not to touch the boiling kettle?

Would you tell your kids to be carefully when they cross the roads or would u let them realise it by letting them get hit by a car?

The FULL name of the tree, my fellow brethren, is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Of good and evil. God knew that Adam and Eve had no good to gain from eating the fruit, but only evil. For what do we want evil for?

Instead, God's fairness is highlighted here when he still gave them the freedom to choose:

1. To trust wholly in God's providence for them
or
2. To do what they feel themselves feel right and good

What we should concentrate upon is not about God denying Adam and Eve and eventually us, knowledge but rather that He is so perfect a moral being that He is unwilling to rob us of our freewill, therefore, not abusing His power. He seeks only to deprive us from knowledge of evil which would cause us to dwell and roll within the mud of sin... unwilling to save our own soul.

God does not want knowledge to be forbidden! For Jesus Himself encouraged us to use our minds. This is DEFINITELY ot a story to discourage people from seeking the truth.

In fact, Luke the Apostle in Luke 1, stated that he had investigated the claims of Christianity himself and found it beyond doubt. Luke has been proven by recent archaeology to be a meticulous historian and intellectual of the first class.

So how can we say that God seeks to deprive us of knowledge? We can only say that God seeks to deprive us of our craving for knowledge of evil for our own good. Is this not true, eternal and pure love in its most sanctified form? The form that only the love of God can spur Him to persevere despite our numerous transgressions, great and small, against Him.

Because humans are supposed to be stupid and weak, according to the Bible. Otherwise, how ELSE would they fall for Moses telling them that he talked to a burning bush... up high on a mountain where no one was around?

"Blessed are the meek" indeed.

Its time to think parable. If someone has no sense of who they are then knowledge influences and sways too much. Everyone should work on their personality, priniciples, and behavior before a lot of knowledge.
