The books of the New Testament were all authored by people who were part of the first generation of Christians. That was one of the requirements for a book to make it into the New Testament . it had to have been authored by one of the original apostles. The last of the New Testament books was completed around 95AD (with all but two before 70AD), so they do not include any history beyond that point.
As far as the gay question, the majority of church of leaders in that time between the first apostles and teh Council of Nicene (the formation of the Catholic church) were married with families. The practice within the Catholic church of not marrying did not begin until the late middle ages (nearly a thousand years after that) and did not become a requirement until the 18th century. So there would be nothing to attract gays to the Christian priesthood during that time period.

Read the book of Acts.
The Bible says "How beautiful are the feet who bring the good news proclaiming Jesus and his salvation"/ Those who died for their beliefs should not be likened the abominable acts. The original apostles, and Paul, were martyred. Most books were not inspired unless they were firsthand accounts of walking in the flesh and learning of Jesus.
