I'm hearing mixed answers on this subject. It seams it was to close to tell, and Britton is saying they were clearly in Iraqi waters. What is Iran's deal?

GPS said that they were in Iraqi waters. Period.

Now, Iran constantly disputes whether that area is Iraq's or Iran's.

Best way to establish it is to shoot and sink any Iranian Naval ship that strays in that space.

They were VERY clearly in Iraqi waters.

This was a planned snatch - the Iranians had been planning to do it for at least a week before they made the grab.

The Shatt-al-Arab is a very critical waterway and Iran plays up the difficulty in finding the exact border frequently as part of their power-play to gain full control over the entire thing.

They were in Iranian waters!

"The Iranian authorities intercepted these sailors and marines in Iranian waters and detained them in Iranian waters. This has happened in the past, as well," Mottaki said." however the story is confusing. One has the US saying that the Brits didn't know they were in Iranian waters, and then they say they were in Iraqi waters when both know the waters have long been under dispute between Iraq and Iran.

My question is, with so much ocean, why would anyone want to be in an area that they knew was in dispute, though Iran says they were in Iranian waters!

They either got lost or they did it on purpose to heighten tensions!

I am telling you, Bush wants Iran Oil and he will launch an attack before his term is up. I hope they impeach him as they have been starting to talk about, and these weren't just Democrats!

I wouldn't be surprised if we never know for sure.

I'm pretty sure that the decision to go to war against Iran has already been made, and the Bush administration has been actively seeking some sort of border incident or similar provocation. Apparently the Iranians obliged.

The fact that the British patrol was so lax as it allowed the Iranians to just sail up to them and take them captive is just another one of many phuck ups in this entire war. There is no explanation for it like so many other mishaps. The Gods are not with us on this one.

Every time this story is told it always includes the word "disputed territorial waters" -

The "Key" word here is "disputed".

Iran Sez they were in their Territorial waters and others say they were't.

Only Allah knows - and he is not telling!

I don't think they were because they had no business there but if they were then they were probably on a spying mission for the Americans.
