It is a diesel power ford truck it hasn't been driven in 3 or 4 weeks. Suddenly in the middle of the night it is on fire? No FORD jokes please this is a serious question.

normally a fuel line has to rupture. but I know Ford has had issues with I believe some trucks just catching on fire while sitting there. I think some electronic module goes nutty and over heats and causes the fire.

I own a shop, have a degree in engineering, and have dealt with industrial safety issues for years. The first course of action would be to go to the (NTSB) National transportation safety board website, and see what recalls are on the vehicle. I remember something about an ignition switch problem with some Fords that caused this problem, and if I remember correctly there was a recall on many Fords to repair the faulty switch. Yours may fall into this catagory, and it may be worthwhile to investigate. Another issue I would consider would be; Many aftermarket add on things such as stereo equipment, amplifiers, cell phone equipment, fog lights, or anything that didn't come on the vehicle from the factory is a concern. Many people will install components straight from a power source without placing a fuse at the power source, and/or using too high of an amp fuse. A good example would be the cigarette lighter. It doesn't blow a fuse, but yet it will get hot enough to light a fire, and this is because it has a high amp fuse on the circuit to the lighter. A fuse is designed to blow when it sees a draw on the circuit of more than the wiring can handle without catching on fire. Many people will run hot wires through the door in a pinch area, and after a while the pinch on the wires will rub the insulation off the wires, thus causing the wires to short out, and heat up to unsafe temperatures. The NTSB will have a record of all reported safety hazzards with your vehicle, and can point you in the right direction on the course of action you may need to take to resolve the issue.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Not sure what year this truck was but ford had a problem with astro vans doing this same thing. Turned out it was the ignition switch that caused the problem. I am not sure if there is a relation here or not but it is a possibility. there was a recall on some of the ford trucks it would have helped to have a year on the ford truck. if you still have the vin of the truck see if there was a recall on it of any sort. my bet is it was an electrical issue somewhere that caused it.

Someone spontaneously throwing a molotov cocktail at it?

(that wasn't a Ford joke :D )

Could be an electrical issue that was present for a while, although thats a stretch. Could be some other serious issue involving fluids or wahtnot in the engine area, but thats a reach as well...

I think your looking at vandals

Sits for 3 or 4 weeks without running and then it's on fire...

Sounds to me like there's a good chance someone did something to it.

I certainly tend to head interior the opposite path with my anger. i'm getting chilly. while i'm incapable of speech or emotion, it is while individuals understand i'm pissed. undesirable issues frequently take place while i'm offended because of actual incontrovertible fact that of the actual incontrovertible fact that i'm incapable of feeling. i've got no regard for the suffering of others, and that i act with out questioning of the consequences.
