Even if they had an open rules of engagement, a rubber boat doesn't give you much to fight from.

We could be reading about 15 dead Brits floating in the Gulf.

At least this way, they have a chance.

Don't for get that in 1987, the US shot down an Iranian passenger plane killing all 300+ on board and the sensitivity probably still remains ( I'm sure your very happy about that). Anyway, considering the US and Brits are always trying to play politics with Iran, they had the right to do what they did. No country should be above International law.

Why were the Brits sailing around disputed waters in rubber rafts to begin with? Some of this is just common sense people or very bad military tactics in a theater of war.

I assume you're talking about our servicemen being taken by the Iranians? If we had opened fire, things would be a lot worse than they are now!
