I got in touch with a local college of design and asked a teacher if he could set it as part of a challenge to his students. The teacher and students were thrilled as it was something different from the coursework and really gave them free expression and I got some BRILLIANT ideas, really unusual and innovative ones that I'm sure I wouldn't have dreamt up on my own. I used one of the ideas, and bought the class a big box of chocolates as a reward. Try that.

A logo should not be hard to make...tho I am an artist so these things baffle me when people can't believe I paint what I paint or make what I do. My suggestion would be to sit around and doodle.

use a paint package like paint shop pro
look on the internet to see a desighn type you may like the shape of its a great place to start off with ideas
copy the image by right click on it with mouse and save target or save picture
then load it into your paint package and change colors and text as required
this way you will start off with correct size and shape of the image you want
you could always put your town name in the business name to stop confusion with others with the same name eg:
TAYLORS of PRESTON
you only have to look on the internet to find similar names type in yours and see what comes up

(whos who) http://www.nominet.org.uk/ site this will give you all the dormain names and company house you will need to register to they will also tell you if the name you want to use is free as for the logo i surgest word as no company will give you it for free
