They are on the right track. They need to dump Prior and Wood and pick up some new arms. I think they can win their division this season. What they do in the future is really up to management and Sweet Lou.

Hopefully not before they lose Zambrano, Soriano, Barrett, and Hill.
Since Hill will be around longer than Lee and Ramirez will be, I'm hoping the Cubs have an entirely different nucleus before they even make the playoffs, let alone winning the World Series.
That being said, their best chance since 2003 rests with the possible 2008 ballclub. They'll need to keep Zambrano (a potential free agent after the season), acquire a true CF so Soriano can move to a corner (LF or RF), and develop/purchase a more reliable bullpen. All the other pieces seem to be put in place right now, as much as I hate to admit it.

I'm seeing a close to .500, 2nd place season. Gotta work out the kinks, and get rid of the broken glass pitchers that take up space in the rotation. However, offense goes a long way these days. If the can pick up a couple live arms during before the trading deadline, there might be a wild card berth in the making.

The Cubs are commencing on that long climb to get lower back into the thick of issues. Derrick Lee could be lower back in a pair of weeks. in spite of the reality that Kerry wood is lower back on the DL, the pitching is commencing as much as practice it up a notch, and Mark past is due lower back. stepping into the international sequence could be asking slightly lots. in the event that they are .500 or extra ideal via the All celeb wreck, they could think of wild card action. it somewhat is purely wishful thinking from a Cubs fan.

Maybe when Cub fans stop interfering with balls hit down the left field line at Wrigley so their outfielder can catch the ball and end the inning instead of extending the inning allowing tying runs to score and finally losing a game they should have won that would have helped get them into the World Series.

Well like I keep saying it's still way too early to decide that, but here's what I think anyway just by following spring training, I think they will go a lot farther than they have in the past but don't quite think they will make it to the w.s. (btw I am not a Cubs fan....GO GIANTS)

NEVER underestimate sweet Lou! He has spent some rough years in Tampa, and now more than ever he's itching to win. He is a hot tempered, aggressive, intelligent manager who really, really hates to lose. With him and the new players this year you guys look like the favorite to me. Oh yeah Pinnela doesn't give a @#$% about spring training. You haven't actually seen your teem yet.
