For one thing, most manufacturing is outsourced to different countries so its often impossible.
Aside from that, its bad for consumers. When people buy products just because they are American made it reduces the incentive of American companies to lower price or increase quality. Eventually the patriotic buying will stop as people see the higher quality of foreign goods, and the American companies involved will be badly hurt.
This is exactly what happened to the U.S automobile market in the 80's when the advantages of cheap, efficient Japanese cars outweighed the desire to buy American.

There really isn't such a thing as buying American any more. Toyotas are built in Indiana... Fords are built with parts from Mexico... And, if any politician says that, the foreign governments could say the same thing to their citizens, which would cause the increasing American trade deficit to rise faster.

Because its not important anymore. When the baby boomers retire we will have a 35% decrease in our work force with five years. The government new this was going to happen and systematically started to eliminate low paying jobs as well as jobs that could be handled more efficiently over seas. The ultimate goal is to be left with predominantly white collar jobs in technology and other intellectual pursuits. This is why so many people hate NAFTA.

They would offend all of their constituents who buy, sell, trade, import foreign products. That's probably more people than those who make and sell American products.

I have to agree with your question. I ask the same one, yet I can clearly see the answer.
The Republicans, do not want to offend other allies at war time.
The DEMO-crats want to prove their bias point. "The Bush's Failed Policies".
Now if you do a search, you will find that it is mostly the DEMO-crat ran states, that have the most job loss, lay-offs, school closings.

If America remains economically strong and viable, the socialists in congress will not be able to use it to gain more control of your lives and money. It is not in their best interest.
Corrupt career congressmen are killing our constitution and are stealing our freedoms not to mention our money.
