So I never got that argument...why is gay marriage against protecting the rights of the family? how is it attacking 'the family' in the first place? i mean I guess I can understand that some people find homosexuality sacreligious (i personally disagree, but i can understand that some do) and that a 'family' is a man and a woman...but outside of religion...how is this argument legally enforced and backed up? it makes no sense... what does it even mean?

would someone please explain this logic to me?

what is the substance behind the phrase?

eh? I just don't get any of it, please someone explain the argument.

I enjoy reading all of the comments about why homosexual marriage is attacking the rights of the family...but I have yet to hear HOW it is attacking... I mean I really want someone to phrase the logic that the government and poiticians use behind the slogan. I totaly think that there IS no real logic and that it is an excuse for prejudice....but there is a logic that they use to win people over (even if it is false logic), and that is what i am missing. how are they exactly saying that homosexual marriage is attacking? any facts or resources out there to state what they are using as political guidlines??

Oh, in the above add where I wrote "I enjoy reading all of the comments about why homosexual marriage is attacking the rights of the family..." i meant to say that I enjoy reading all of the comments about why people think that heterosexual marriage advocates say that homosexual marriages are attacking the rights of the family.

Sorry, their is no logic behind this argument...
My marriage doesn't attack the rights of family, why should they, as if I would marry a man if I couldn't have married my wife...
I believe it's because people are afraid...afraid of the unknown...
Luckily here in Belgium they made the right decision and opened up marriage for ALL people!

If everyone that was gay was allowed to marry than maybe next year I could marry my dog or maybe even myself. Marriage is between a man and a woman, it has been for centuries and God willing it will be for many to come. There has always been homosexuality but never before have people felt the need to legalize their sin. Sodom and Gamorah were destoyed before and I'm sure that when enough is enough God will take care of the problem again!

i dont care what people do in the privacy of their homes, i dont care if two men walk down the street holding hands, anymore than i care if a man and woman do the same. i dont care if two men give each other a quick kiss on the cheek goodbye as they leave each other for the day anymore than i care if a man and woman do.
what i do object to is the open fondling of partners that goes on. whether it be man and woman, two men, two women, whatever, i think the deep kisses, groping, belongs behind closed doors.
i object to the gay pride parades that many communities around the world allow. i object to them mainly due to the coarse behavior that is shown, as well as the ignorant costumes, and gestures. i object to those that have sewn a huge fabric phallus' to their clothing and wave it about. i dont care that they are gay or not gay, i think the parade and the attitude that runs rampant throughout the parade is for the most part obscene and the actions and attitude is designed to incite the rest of the population.
i realize that in many cases their costumes with bare buttocks and breasts showing are no skimpier than beach wear, but they aren't on the beach, and their behavior is not acceptable on the beach or not.
again, i dont care who is or isnt gay, i just dont care, but i do care about the extreme behavior of some folks in these parades. again i feel they are doing their best to be as obscene as possible in order to incite others.
as for marriage i do believe it is supposed to be between man and woman, but, if majority of a countries population votes to allow marriage between same-sex partners then so be it. hopefully when and if gay marriages fall apart they will have to follow the same divorce proceedings, laws and regs, as the standard marriage does.
in the meantime there should be some propriety in public and again that goes for all people, not just gays.
and while we are saying gays are so picked on, so are the gays doing their best to portray hetrosexuals as all that is wrong with the world.
if one group wants to be treated in the sense of
live and let live
then they need to do the same for others.

"If everyone that was gay was allowed to marry than maybe next year I could marry my dog or maybe even myself" - if u REALLY wanted to marry ur dog, there shouldnt be a problem now would there? I've been reading and answering questions about gays ALL NIGHT now and i think everyone is entittled to their own opinion but let me tell u something, first of all, i am gay myself, but i am going to tell it to u like it is. U cant BAG OUT straight marriages, i know they have their issues and divorces and GOD knows if any of them are happy, but in reality they are the one in the "right" arent they not? Best theory from the natural side of things i think makes a lot of sence for me as to why there is gay people walkin this planet is nature's check up on population. This i even find a bit offencive coz i dont want to feel like im natures experiment and natures way of just keeping the rates steady of the poplation growth but somehow it just clicks from the natures point of view. Another theory is the YING YANG..its only like the best theory in the world! BALANCE! tall and short, skinny and fat, ugly and pretty, boy and girl, straight and gay and there is defenetly middle in all of this to keep the balance straight and thats AVERAGE. and there is only 250 Hermophrodies walking this planet which are in the middle of the physical sexes, actually they have both organs! which some how falls into the middle of things. c mon! makes perfect sence. The world is at a perfect balance with everything and i dont think many people know or understand just how it works! Having said this though, i belive nature gives and takes, when it gives a person such feelings to feel attracted to the same sex and hav a lifetime of worry from no other reasons but from a close-minded society, it also gives people what straight people wouldnt have. U kno how it is, u cant have "everything" and dats where balance kicks in again. Gay Love, it trully is sometimes more succesful then straight, im not discouraging people to be straight but because a love of two gay people is more worked for, their love grows way more stronger because the two people fite to have one another. they fite the world and they would not give up eazy to have their relationship fail especially after something like marriage. Soceity and Religion does put too much PRESSURE on people and the whole "family" buissness, iv never really heard of it like dat, a man and a woman are a family? HMM sometimes i look at a man and a woman...i look at my parents, they are so...like..it feels like they are in it coz they have to, it sometimes feels very loveless and its all about the opposite gender and there is lots of stereotyping and talks about what gender is better, and they are given roles in which they have to sustain where with gay couple u CHOOSE, u can be the "man" or the "woman", play ur own role which u feel most comfortable with. There was a saying ones as well, God made Gay People so people in general can understand the power of CHOICE. U dont have to do something u dont want to! What is the perfect ideal of life? Isnt every1 missin out on somethings? I just hope that we all get passed dis, and wen people have kids, not to put the kid thru something like, them having to "come out" as to who they are when from the beggining they are expected to be straight which is not always da case. I think parents should have a talk with their children and not encourage them to be gay but just to clear out to them that they do have a choice and they are entitled to feel whatever they are feeling and act on it. If the kid is straight it will continue to be straight even tho it wud be educated that not every person feels da way the kid does and they wont be like one of those homophobic freaks who go around and make an innocent persons life a living hell. Anyway a family means many things, who can define wot a family really is? is it blood related? we have people who call eachother "family" even if they are not family. Its people who are really close to eachother that wud do anything for eachtoher...thats family...people who love and respect one another and they will be there for one another no matter wot...they are family!
Peace and Good Vibrations to U :)

it makes no sense whatsoever. just something the bigots say, because they hate us and don't want us to have any rights? but, seriously....how could we "hurt" marriage any more than straight couples do? I mean, just look at the divorce rate these days. and more and more straight couples choose not to get married. more children born out of wedlock and raised by single parents. the infidelity, abuse, and the blase' attitude some people, especially (or so it seems) celebrities (i.e. Britney Spears' 55 hr drunken Vegas marriage...and now, big surprise! her divorce from "K Fed").
how could we possibly do worse than that? or, as someone else said, maybe they're afraid we'll be happier than they are? hmmmm....

Sorry, but I can't explain what makes no sense. The places that have gay marriage don't seem to have been hurt one bit.

I don't see why some people feel it is their buisness to define what is or is not a family. If two unmarried sisters live together, are they not a family?

It's because the perect family is seen as a man a woman and 2 kids, so gay people oppose that it is seen as an attack, stupid I know.

Maybe the religious nutjobs feel better attacking same sex marriage because of their own shortcomings and high divorce rate.

It doesn't! So far, the only ones getting married and ruining it are straight people! (Divorce, swapping, swinging, unwanted children, incest, marriages of convenience, abuse, cheating...) I think some of them are just afraid the gays will make happier couples with healthier relationships and make the straight people look even sadder.
