yep they get a set fee but the whole point of international call ups is to do it for pride for your country not money. i think it was don revie who made the mistake of telling the england lads back in 74 "good news lads i got you a pay rise" not the done thing!

Yes, players are paid for representing their country - and it's been a long standing arguement that players should be proud to be picked and not get a fee .... but they still do.

A few years ago I know that the fee was around £7,500 per game but I don't know what the current rate is!

As far as I am aware there is a fee. However the fee is insignificant when compared with footballer's wages.

I know that some years ago the Republic of Ireland players used to donate their fee to a children's charity. Don't know if this still happens.

Yeah...I remember at the last world cup one of the African country's players threatened to pull out and not play because they weren't getting the money they were promised. Can't remember which team it was. The money they get comes from the national federation, so it is different for every country.

was it the Ivory Coast who were threatening to pull out. I remember at the time thinking, they should have been just happy to represent their country on the international stage, and showcase their talent. Instead all they showed was their greed..
