I know there are such things as ghosts, but I don't believe all the buzz about orbs being evidence of anything but imperfections in digital photography.

Rationally speaking, that's possible. For example, the Holy Bible speaks of Ezekeil and the mysterious wheel he saw.
And so many ancient cultures have artefacts and carvings that depict angels as nothing but humans wearing strange costumes, wearing strange equipment and looking so different.
For ancient man, an alien who came from an advanced civilization would appear to be an angel. Simply because these aliens would be able to do things with their technology that ancient man could only perhaps imagine.
Swiss author Eric Von Daniken has written several books that deal with precisely the same issues and perhaps you would like to read them for more accurate answers on your question.

Good question, but by their descriptions I think they're more like demons. Abductees say they smell sulfur, they say the aliens tell them they have the right to do what they please, and sometimes abductees report being taken under the earth. Also, in the Book of Job, God and Satan meet in the air, so it makes sense that Satan's people are there as well.

well, you need to respect the barrier that separates the physical plane from the spiritual one, i mean spiritual beings don`t hang out too much in the physical plane so your theory doesn`t work... all alien witnesses talk about physical things that they saw and angels well, they`d have the same composition as the ghost so something here doesn`t match up...
