Went to an interview last nite where the wonderful filmmaker Euzhan Palcy was talking. She told us she was filming a big one at Pinewood in which there would be a `big` black/white love scene.
I mentioned that Halle Berry and Bruce Willis are going to consummate a kiss and asked why it has taken Hollywood so long.....................
Even the same sex taboo was shattered prior to that of race.
Funny thing is Berry and others are PRODUCTS of interracial marriages; so someone must have kissed someone to get it going.
As usual Hollywood accepts reality but fails to recognize it. And France, judging from Palcy, as this is country which has financed the film being shot at Pinewood, is regressing in its evaluation of race as it used to be, in French films, that interracial relationships were accepted as a matter of course. No big deal.
We have lots to learn from the French if only they`d hang tough.

I think you are overstating things, there have been many interracial love scenes and interracial kissing in movies. You mentioned Denzel Washington he had a seriously hot scene with an actress whose name escapes me now in the movie "He Got Game" some years ago.

In the end, filmmakers are in it to make money. That means that they cannot afford to alienate their audience, which is usually white, film-going, DVD-buying men.
And it is not just the studios. For example, Denzel Washington refused to kiss Julia Roberts in The Pelican Brief or Kelly Lynch in Virtuosity because he did not want to "put off" his putative audience.
Maybe it's not fair to compare French Cinema to American cinema on this issue because the French do not have the same racial history as the US, and the audiences are different.
Even the liberal world of porn is not so different: Jenna Jameson reported refused to do an inter-racial scenes for the same reason. Can't say I blame her. She has to make a living.
