what are the requirements? how far can it reach to a maximum?
I have my house a km apart with a hill in the mitst, will it work?

Covering a KM is not difficult, its what obstructions are between you that are the issue! Wifi is all "line of sight" and that can be several miles. (That does not mean you have to be able to actually see the other end.)

You certainly can design an antenna, others have, but if you dont have the correct equipement to check your design you wont get the performance that is available. The right equipment is expensive. The do it yourself method has limits.

The ARRL site has several articles and a great book on antenna design. http://www.arrl.org

Or search for wifi antenna design - it will return hundreds of sites some with really good information. Most are for directional antennas however.
