There are millions of men that get women pregnant after drinking and smoking all night so I think you are clutching at straws a wee bit. It may help to stop a small amount if his sperm count is low but I doubt it. You have not said how long you have been trying. It took my wife and I about a year to conceive our 2 (all adults now). My daughter took about 2 years and needed help from her GP before she conceived and neither she nor her hubby were drinking or smoking. Be patient and discuss with your GP what the options are to help you.

I've been living this life for 10 years. You say he "wants to drink" - does he? It's not what he drinks, it's not how much he drinks...it's about how it affects his life. If it's causing a problem in your relationship, then it's a problem. You are headed for a rollercoaster that will have many ups and downs before the ride is over. My husband is finally on that road to recovery. You are NOT overreacting. Memory loss, risky behavior (does he drink and drive), and liver problems are just some of the medical problems he has to look forward to. Also, remember that alcoholism is heriditary. Even if no one in his family is an alcoholic, it has to start somewhere, and from this point on, your offspring is at risk. Be there for him. Alcoholism is an illness....for better or worse. If he had cancer, you wouldn't sit around and say "I sure hope he goes to chemo." So why do you sit around and wait for him to get treatment? Unless you are very religious, I would vote against going to Al-anon. I was raised catholic, but still had a hard time with them spouting "Put your faith in HIM" I just couldn't buy into. Also, keep in mind that AA has an 88% FAILURE rate. If you had to keep standing infront of people saying, HI, my name is Bob and I'm an alcoholic.....wouldn't you start to live up to that label. There are inhibiting drugs than take away the craving, medical detox, and even hypnosis therapy. Try everything....don't give up...his life, your daughter's life, and your future together depends on it. Feel free to email me.

We've been trying for years, had all the tests done, answered all the questions (my other half smokes) and the doctor said that sometimes infertility just happens for no apparent reason. People who drink heavily and smoke like chimneys have kids all the time. We keep trying though - and so should you . Good luck!!

Yes it could be that the alcohol is the problem. It lowers the sperm count. The only way he is going to stop is if he really wants to. Nagging won't help. Try and make him see reason.

Educate him (more) on the ill effects of both vices. Tell him his lungs are already greyish like a molding cabbage head and his liver will fail inevitably.
It's not to scare him, though.
