In Iran it is among some but not necessarily what they find to be "attractive". Most Iranian women are physically fit and are usually having a beautiful looking face. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan it is definately seen in this way, as they think if the woman is heavy or very thick then her family must be well off . The reason being behind such ideas is that in these countries women culturally choose and/or may be expected to eat only after the rest of the family eats because they want to make sure their kids have had their fill and many women are usually thinner for the cause of that, what with doing so much household work and a smaller portion of food etc.....So when they see a woman in these places where she is heavier or thicker than the average female, it would appear to them there is enough for her kids plates to overflow with food ,her parents in law and her husbands plate to overflow also, then hers must be very full too because she is so "healthy" looking and the possibility comes to mind if they can afford so much food and she is so heavy that they probably have servants to help in the home so she has to exercis very little .

In general, most Iranians I know would think obese/fat people have poor choices of diet. Some people may say they are lazy. Some (usually the ones with obese/fat relatives or ones who are obese/fat themselves) may say that they eat well and really enjoy their food. The whole concept in certain countries of being overweight equating to wealth kind of died in the middle east and central asia around the same time that the same way of thinking died in the western nations. You have to remember that being an Islamic country, gluttony is frowned upon heavily (no pun intended). Basically, if you are obese, you eat too much, that is the consensus of the Iranians I know (friends, relatives and clients) :)
