if for example a woman likes watching shows like the l word or a guy likes to watch shows like noah's arc or queer as folk... do you think this means they have some homosexual tendencies? i mean... im asking because it seems that a straight women wouldn't like to see a bunch of women making out or having sex, and i doubt straight guys want to see guys making out or having sex.

TODAY I've turned 37... and I can see why your friend thinks that way because The L Word has LOTS of racy lesbian scenes. It is a show about lesbian lives that's made for lesbians to enjoy. Makes you wonder why straight women would want to see that when they can't relate, hmmm? I am a lesbian and I don't enjoy shows with racy heterosexual scenes in them. (Not my thing, and it does nothing for me). I like watching "Friends" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." Although THOSE shows aren't gay, there's not racy, sexy scenes in them, either. Watching tv shows doesn't label you, but if I saw straight people watching Oz or The L Word or Queer As Folk, I'd wonder what their interest is...

have you ever actually watched these shows? both Queer as Folk and L Word are principally about a group of friends, and show the ways the friends support each other as they go through all kinds of personal drama. yes, there is sex sometimes, but it's not like a continuous porn scene. so people who become fans of the show are probably fans of the characters and interested in the personalities portrayed, not just interested in seeing them naked or getting it on.

on the other hand...is it a problem if folks do have "homosexual tendencies"?

It may not have to do that much with sexuality. It may have to do with the quality of the shows. If it's a very well-written show then it will appeal to alot of people, regardless of their sexual orientation. Of course the homophobes won't watch no matter what but open-minded straight people will watch if it's a good show. I'm a heterosexual woman but I've enjoyed lesbian-themed films such as "Lianna" and "Personal Best". The sexual orientation of the characters had nothing to do with it. They were very good films that were very well acted and written. I know several straight men who enjoyed "Brokeback Mountain" because it was an excellent film. Open-minded people who have taste and intelligence and are not frothing homophobes appreciate quality entertainment.

I agree with Deep water... I have straight buddies who watch "gay tv shows" sometimes and they are NOT anything close to being gay. They simply have no "masculinity" issues.

Could it be just for entertainment value? I liked The Jeffersons, but didn't want to be Black. I liked Sex in the City, but didn't want to be like any of those people.
