I think the stain may be cooking oil which had splashed out of a fryer in the house.

I think the stain is oil from a deep fat frier, unfortunately I fear it may be well dried in by now as the coat is "summer" wear and I hadnt noticed it till now.

Yes, I can help you salvage that suede coat, To eliminate a fresh grease spot on a suede jacket or skirt, gently brush it with a soft toothbrush dipped in white vinegar. Let the spot air-dry, then brush with a suede brush. Repeat if necessary. You can also generally tone up suede items by lightly wiping them with a sponge dipped in vinegar.
