It has to do with when they started using the Internet, they're loyal to what was the best search back then.
about two or three years ago, google brought up better results. It had a bigger search pile at one time, and built up a reputation.
For some subjects it still has better results, but because it has started having to support itself through advertising revenue, it's gone downhill like Yahoo did. Eventually someone else will come up with a better search engine, survive on venture capitalist money for a while, then start to get bad again when it has to survive.
I still prefer Altavista (I've been using the Internet for a loooong time).

Because there is nothing on the page except a box and results. I do not use MSN, Yahoo, etc because there pages all filled with graphics and news and the search boxes are hidden at the top or top corners. Google has always found what I need and has maybe options for tweaking your search.

Don't let the fact that Google home page looks plain fool you. It has just as much if not more in the background. Try clicking on more >> above the search box. There are heaps of resources just not on display. It is without doubt the best search engine.

I like Yahoo for its contents such as yahoo answers, Yahoo auto, yahoo news because its available on there home page. But I prefer Google as a search site because it brings up better results. Haven't you ever notice how when you search on yahoo all it does is try to sell you something. I freaking hate that.
