I have a 3rd octave key on mine, but it's not essential. It's used to play really high notes above high F#, but I've never used it because I can't play that high yet.

I do not have a 3rd octave key on my oboe, and I can play every note without it. It is not essential, though a lot of English and newer oboes have one. You don't need one and the best oboes are really the older ones.

In my own opinion, i think of it must be considered one of two issues, that are your embouchure (the way your mouth is), or octave key. i might verify on the suitable of the neck, the place the hollow is and see if the pad is thoroughly sealing the hollow. If it rather is not by way of the smallest length, you will have a undertaking. however if it particularly is leaking, attempt bending between the steel areas connecting the thumb key to the pad. it particularly is particularly helpful to objective repositioning the neck, which may additionally fix the undertaking, in case you do not choose to bend something.
