I've enjoyed both the limelight and publicity that comes from being in the public eye, but I've often wondered if the public expects something from me in return. So, is there, and should there be a price to being famous?

You don’t owe the public anything. But you owe youself a moral duty and social responsibility to your country and religion. As a celebrity, teenagers would look up to you as a role model. That’s where you come in to play your bit. To show by example how Malaysian can be cool and hip and at the same time upholding our Eastern (Asian) cultural values and believes intact. The last thing you should do is to emulate the lifestyle of western celebrities where the indulgences of drugs, booze and free sex are the norms.
Celebrity time span is normally short and sweet, so go out enjoy your fame while it last. The only price that comes with fame is that every moves you made would be constantly in the media spotlight. But every breathe you take would be yours , so just be true to your self. You just can't please all the people all the time.At the end of the day you are answerable to your religion and god only.

“Fame is a vapor, popularity is an accident, money takes wings, those who cheer you today may curse you tomorrow. The only thing that endures is character”. --Horace Greeley

In my opinion, I'm paying you for a service. (entertaining me) The only thing that irritates me is when celebs are rude--the whole reason they get into the business is to make money and be famous--if I'm helping you do that, the least you could do is sign an autograph--after all, if the fans went away, where would they be? On tv or doing interviews talking nice, trying not to fade away. But they're really getting what they wanted--to be left alone. I'm not talking about being at the "service" of everyone else 24/7, just an autograph to show some appreciation to the people that helped get them there.

I think this goes to every celebrity out there. It does comes with a price tag and i think it should.. Its because a celebrity is a celebrity because we make them into a celebrity. Lets say public don't like the way Marion speaks, then thats the end of her career. Literally... But the price tag is not much. Its just that u need to react a certain way in public places. If a fan comes up to u then u have no choice but to entertain them. U might be out to let some steam off but when it comes to fans u have no choice but to play along with them. Just a smile goes a long way. I realise that many malaysian celebrities like to snub their fans. Reason given is its my private time. Well that's a price to pay then! But i think everything has a limit. I really don aggree bout snooping into their personal lives... That is too much! I hope every celebrity realises that in 1 way or another they do owe their success to their fans......

Celebrities and their audience should have a give and take kind of relationship. Celebs owe the public honesty, humility and the best of their craft. In return, the public owe the celebs their privacy and the right to be human and imperfect. I can't imagine why the paparazzi have the nerve to sue celebs who fought back on their intrusion. How would they feel if the tables are turned and they are the ones watched? Actually, if I were a fellow celeb, I would applaud to what Johnny Depp, Tommy Lee and Denise Richards did to thwart off the viciously snoopy press.

They're famous because they have loyal fan followings who support and appreciate their careers. So stars should have respect for their fans, be appreciative, and take time to sign autographs etc.

But at the same time, celebs are humans and people should respect the fact that they get tired, angry, have a bad day, just like regular folks.

Personally it sucks to be famous because you cant do anything without being observed and analysed in the public and the Media. Must nicer being a regular person who has the freedom and privacy, which is far more invaluable.

Yes, of course. Celebrities do owe the public. You owe their trust. In order to keep in fame, you must remember that staying away from bad gossips/controversies makes you being respected, being loved. Not only by your fans, you'll gather respect from public who enjoy the way you are. If the public trust you, nothing you must afraid of. They expect you to become sincere to them. Some people want to be near with their idol, but only few got the chances. This situation made people judge you from what they see on t.v or newspapers, not from knowing the real you. This is what celebrities owe the public. TRUST.

Nothing really. Celebrities, famous though they are, actually are working for a living as any person is working for a living. The difference is that, their work area is in the mind and the heart of those who watch them. It makes their work a lot more exciting and maybe more difficult. But however famous they get, they don't owe anyone anything. People pay to watch them because they ejoy watching them. It's just that, celebrities more often than not, becomes their fan's heroes and life meters. So I guess it is for their own interest to keep themselves interesting and exciting to their respective viewers, fans, etc.

I don't believe celebrities owe the public anything in return that is carved in stone.

However, there are so many issues that affect the general public that needs as much support as possible to heighten awareness, that are hungry for public support in both monetary and non-monetary forms.

It would do no harm but good if celebrities, given their power of infulence on the general public, to support one or more good causes and help bring more public and private awareness and involvement.

There are so many charitable organizations that comes to the aid of the public that the public general are unaware of or forgets in the process of life. These organizations hunger for moral, physical, & financial supports, without even thinking of how desperate those who need help from these organizations are in.

Therefore, I think this would be the least any celebrity can do out of personal generosity; to help bring more awareness and support for a good cause of his or her choice.

Nothing. Fame is a purely ephemeral concept that only the egotistical value. By enjoying the limelight and publicity you are fooling yourself into thinking that being seen and known by millions makes you different from everyone else.

The truth is, you're no different at all.

No, I don't think celebrities owe the public anything. The public are receiving entertainment from celebrities and getting enjoyment. Celebs lose their private life, and can't do much without everyone knowing...that's a big enough price to pay for being famous, without having to give any thing more.
