However, I am at work and worried that I will feel really ill. Should I ask to go home before I take it? Or should I just hope I don;t get any side effects?

I've two separate courses of metronidazole. I felt a bit sick whilst taking it, but nothing too bad. Every one's different though, it may affect you. You could get drowsy and if you do a job that involves using machinery, driving etc it could be dangerous, in such a case I would ask to go home as you don't know how you'll react to it.

You should be ok. All medications have side effects. However, they are rare and mostly mild if you do get them. Take them - as they are important, and see how you feel. Drink plenty of water, and don't drink any alcohol. If you do experience intolerable side effects, see your dr and get put onto different ones. With antibiotics its a case of trial and error. good luck : )

I would recommend getting in touch with your dr to see what they suggest about timing to start the medication and what to do about the at work situation.
