Sleep apnea is just a term that means that the person stops breathing during sleep and wakes up gasping for air even though they don't recall waking. While it is true that most people with this condition are obese, there are other causes for the disorder. Of course, not every loud snorer has sleep apnea, either. In order to "fix" the loud snoring, you first have to figure out what's causing it. Nasal strips usually work for snorers who are snoring b/c of fallen nasal passages. Snoring can be reduced for people with big adenoids or uvula by an adenoidectomy or clipping the uvula. If snoring is a result of dry throat then the snore spray might work. So my question is, when you observe the person sleeping, does their chest continue to rise and fall without air moving in and out?? If so, suspect apnea. Cheaper to try the strips, sprays, etc. but, if sleep apnea, the person will need a sleep study. When my hubby had his, he "woke up" 700 times in one night. It's no wonder he'd fall asleep driving from work to home--a whole whopping 1.5 miles. We got the CPAP machine, it reduced the volume of snoring a little, but did not eliminate it. CPAP is not to eliminate snoring, it's to take stress off the heart muscle. When apnea occurs, the heart has to work harder to try to circulate oxygen to the body's vital organs. Sometimes the snoring is so loud that hubby has to sleep in another room so I can get some sleep. It's not cruel, he can sleep ANYWHERE!! Before being diagnosed, he fell asleep in LaMaze class--I was so embarrassed. One time he was "grounded" to the spare B/R for about 1 1/2 months, but I obviously allowed congical visits. LOL.

1. Nose strips help alot.
2. Have you spouse kick you all night long and wake you up and tell you that you are snoring.
3. Kick your snoring zombie to the couch.
4. Don't apologize for your actions. Snoring is rude and causes everyone to sleep poorly.
5. Repeat every single night.
6. Do not wear the ear plugs that your spouse buys you, they are a safety hazard.
I swear, my wife really enjoys this method. Very, very much. So try it out. Enjoy, your spouse will also.

I'm sure you have heard that they should try sleeping on their side, or nose strips, or ear plugs but what helped for me was switching to a fluffier type of pillow. It elevated his head a bit so his mouth wouldn't fall open quite as far and made the snoring a lot more tollerable. Good Luck!
