Since you are using BT broadband Ethernet connection at the moment, this should be a router, unless the router is limited to one Ethernet Port only, you do not have to change it. Otherwise, you will need a new router. A 3Com router such as 3CRWDR101A-75 comes to mind, it is very compatible with MAC PCs (yes, they are Personal Computers).
The router will have 4 Ethernet ports and Wireless, so , you choose your preferred type of connection, and they should see each other fine to share files in between them too.
Feel free to put another question if you need more information, I have used Macs and Microsoft PCs together on such a router with no issues, even shared files between them :-)

Firstly, don't call apples PCs because that can confuse many people. To do this is quite simple. All you need is a router and all you have to do is plug the main Ethernet into the router, and the router will split it into more connections, therefore you can connect more computers
