He may not have a lot of experience leading a team, but he's enthusiastic, bright, committed and passionate about his cricket and playing for England. AND he's totally hot (if that helps). Oh and I love his accent so the press conferences would melt me! :-)

In one day matches yes. He is always talking, encouraging and setting a good example in the field. His batting rarely lets him down and he can bowl a bit too. The best choice for captain i'd say.

A captain in cricket differs immenseley from a captain in football. There is a lot more involvement. It's not a case of shouting and encouraging, there are lots of things a captain needs to think about - fielding positions, bowling changes, batting orders, etc. Just because someone is a good cricketer doesn't make them a good captain. Flintoff is a great cricketer but only a moderate captain. It has also been said that captaincy is too much for Flintoff as he is an all-rounder. It seems to have escaped everyone elses notice that so is Collingwood.

What sets captains apart is thinking outside the box. For instance, when a batsman is attacking and scoring lots of runs on their favourite shot, most captains will put a man on the boundary in that area. The likes of Fleming (New Zealand), Ponting (Aus) and Vaughn (Enland) are all recognised as outstanding captains and they are likely to do the opposite, by putting a fielder in a catching position in that area. It is the balance of knowing when to attack and when to defend, when a bowler needs to be changed or if one more over might bring a wicket.

The fact is you never know until they try, and Collingood has proven by his different batting styles that he is a thinking cricketer and adapts to the match ituation well. If he could do this as captain, then yes he would be excellent. Not sure bout the being hot or his voice as plus points though!

personally I'd love to see Kevin Pietersen as captain, he has a real flair and positive mindset and would lead England more like Australia or South Africa, he plays under Shane Warne at county level and imo Warney is the best captain around. Colly would probably get the job if Vaughan was injuried and Strauss was still out of the team, but he's a bit "safe" for me.

firstly to busterdomino who said collingwood is a geordie, how dare you, he is a mackem. i'm sick of people thinking that coming from the north east makes you a geordie. he would be horrified if you said that to him as he is a fervent sunderland supporter and will therefore see being called a geordie an insult.

in answer to the question, i think he would make a brilliant choice as captain, he has another good few years ahead of him as he is very fit, his batting is excellent, his bowling is quite good and his fielding is the best in the world. he is vocal and encouraging on the pitch and gets on well with everyone on the team, unlike some.

also he's just been named as one of wisden's 5 cricketers of the year. the other england player in it this year is monty panesar.

Paul Collingwood has the ability to stir the England's team to victory. He can cooly take out the team from crisis by his batting & bowling skills. Definitely he is a strong contender for English team captaincy.

I think he is the good choice. As vaghan is not doing anything rather than holding the captainship.First of all, a captain should play well compared to others.Take ponting,fleming,smith...they are not only the captains..they are the key players of the team...Taking in that way, i think ,he could do well as captain....

I think that he would make a good captain. Choosing Flintoff was a mistake as he already had a lot on as an allrounder without the added pressure. I think he would make a very good captain!

I think Andrew Strauss would be a better choice as the team performed very well when he was the acting captain.

Strauss should captain England in Tests and ODI`s when Vaughan retires or is injured. After him Ali Cook .

I do, he is not shy of telling his fellow Geordie(Harmison) about his shortcomings (lack of heart and the inability to bowl straight being the main ones) plus he is gritty, sets a good example and is certainly respected by the Aussies who know a battler when they see one. Probably has not enough social graves for some however.
