lets face it crime pays and also sells. i mean the mafia has been the best thing to happen to hollywood since talkies. what would tv be without the sopranos and all the other crime shows. what would people read if there were no crime thriller and other true crime literature.

so basically our society is completely hypoctritical. on the one hand we rail against crime and call for harsh punishment of criminals yet on the other hand we glorify crime and criminals in our culture(the entertainment industry is not to blame, we the consumer are - who cannot get enough of it).

so far , no one has really grasped the point I was trying to bring across.

simply put: how can we expect a crime-free society if our culture essentially glorifies crime! need proof? turn on your TV or peruse the latest best-sellers.

yes I think there are young people who are influenced by this form of entertainment (it seems there is no other form these days) and that could be a deciding factor in their choosing an "exciting life of crime". but that is not even the point. again, if crime is so objectionable as we are led to believe it is then why do we love reading about it and watching it so much?

Maybe i'm just trying to understand the psychology of the average american. he loved to watch movies or read books about outlaws wielding guns, robbing banks. as someone here put it "its so exciting and so real!".

You are comparing apples with bananas.
Are people really that naive to be influenced by the media to become criminals. If you have ever been a victim of crime i think you would never have posted such a radical question.
In real life, people die by actions of criminals and others have to pay the real penalties. Although i agree that there are many aspects in todays society that are condusive to violence, people make choices and they need to live with consequences here and hereafter and they are aware of their wrongdoings. Yes, sometimes crime pays, but identify the difference between reality and fantasy.

Maybe it seems we are hypocritical, but break it down somemore. Like this, one person hates crime and criminals and wants them to get what they deserve, then there's a second person who loves all the stuff about it because, geewizz, it's exciting and it's reeeeel. That's two people with two different points of view, no hypocrite, just two sets of views. Remember, this is the land of liberty to like and dislike whatever the issue. I see the real problem with crime. It's not done fairly. The Bible clearly states the offensive weapon used to hurt another must be taken away. In the case of pedophiles, take their peepees away because it's the offensive weapon, same goes for rapists. The Bible tells us to do that and the hypocracy is: our system won't do it because their hearts start bleeding all over the place when they finally get their animal in its cage. Sort of bond with it and do all those things you do for pets. Cage, feeding time, controlled and disciplining to teach them right. It's all very shameful and goofy. Obviously there's money involved and that is a major blinder to truth.

YOU MEAN LIKE ROBIN HOOD? A CRIMINAL TO SOME AND A HERO TO OTHERS.
It's entertainment, whether or not you think it's conveying a different message, those issues have already been addressed to the courts and to T.V. productions, as well as book publishers. Because of the 1st amendment of these United States, not much of your concerns have been resolved and to date continue to be major issues of concern

Yeah, watching it, and seeing it on tv and in essence fantasizing about it, is not the same as actually doing it. I'm pretty sure anyone with an imagination could have came up with a "mafia" if the actual mafia never existed.

Are you saying, because we watch it on tv, we should allow it on the streets?

America's most wanted profiles lots of pedophiles, should we just ignore the damage they are doing to youth?

When you take a large group of people (society) you will always find hypocritical trends as not everyone agrees with everyone else. In society we have people campaigning against drugs and people using drugs. Is this hypocritical? No.
Society cannot be a hypocrite
