If you're writing a story, start it any which way you want.
However all research papers state a thesis in the introduction. Plainly state what your paper is about by using your idea in a sentence. For example, one might say "Global warming effects on the ice caps has lead the penguin population to rioting and mass migration to Northern Africa." and then expound upon that a little leading into your first paragraph.
