Release in shooting refers to the time positioning the basketballball before leaving the hand. A quick release is one that is achieved with minimum time.

Shooters use this technique to avoid shot blocker as shot blockers really need to time their jump for a block shot. But quick release is hard to grasp as it is harder to get the back spin on the ball.

Dear silk,

A quick release refers to someone who can get his shot off quickly before you can get a hand in his face. People with quick releases usually have pretty good footwork so that they are squared when they catch the ball to be able to shoot. People with quick releases need to be guarded closely but that also makes them dangerous if they have a good pump fake or good first step.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

The amount of time it takes the ball to leave the shooter's hands once he starts to form his shot is unusually quick.

think about it, what do you think it means?

"quick" referring to the time it takes to "release" or shoot the ball...the best shooters have this skill eg. larry bird, reggie miller, ray allen, michael redd, kyle korver and it makes it hard to guard them because of this ability.
