I think, No country looks a war for itself. of-course, every country wants itself to be in more dictating position, thus tries to develop and deploy more deterring teeth.
The first mistake US made is premature demonstration of destructive power of nuclear energy. Since then every country wants to posses this power.
From the beginning US directly or indirectly encouraging Iran and some of its friends to clandestinely develop these. After first gulf war Iraq was nearly destroyed and they do not had any WMD's and it was known all the time. These statements were made by former UN Sec.Gen Annan and former IA EA chief. only after they found that they are no more getting any additional term. Second gulf war was US way of clearing its old ammunition and making space for new ones. This give US Military and drug industry their life supporting funds at the cost of humanity.
Iran thinks that it can prevent war and sanctions only by aggressively pursuing nuclear. US wants to control the world Thru oil and military supplies Either US or Iran both their ways of thinking is sheer madness towards humanity.

No, they're so bold because they think the US won't start war against Iran with all the fighting in Iraq.

Iranians aren't idiots. They know the US have most advanced/capable force in the world. We can drop whole bunch of nukes on Iran before they finish saying 'death to America.' They know that.

They also know that we are having tough time in Iraq and not in best position to attack Iran with lot of force in Iraq.

I think Iran is looking to be the 800 pound gorilla in the Middle East. It's looking to flex its muscles and the best way to do that is to confront the US. Unfortunately, the US and its allies can't do a whole lot about it. Iran will not directly start a war, but will confront the West, mainly the US through its proxies. (Hezbollah, the Shiite insurgency, and funding Muqtada al-Sadr) They will be the regional power to go through in the Middle East shortly if diplomatic (or at last resort military) options do not pan out.

Iran is resorting to its old bellicose self as they were in the 1970's. They may find the west will soon be out of patience. If this illegal capturing of UK sailors is not resolved within a week or so, look for the UN to vote on much harsher sanctions, not only towards the nuke program, but on this issue. Iran is pushing the wrong buttons and may find themselves in something they may soon regret, including war.

Iran is being led to say 'ok' sometimes and lead again to say 'NO'..Like it once happened to Sadam..!
Surely Iran will be crushed very badly. very soon. it is already too late. US is all prepared to crush. And once US makes up its mind nothing can stop it. Iran has been always detesting jews. AND everyone knows that both US & UK are puppets of jews. Jews will teach Iran a good lesson.

When I first heard about the incident in the Shat al-arab waterway that's what I was thinking. Iran is selling weapons to Iraqi insurgents and training them to use them, trying to build nuclear "reactors", and now kidnapping British soldiers in Iraqi waters. I think Ahmadinejad really wants to go to war with the West like his neighbors, why...I'm not very sure. But I don't see his nor Iran's future looking very pleasant at all.

They, like every military dictatorship want more security. They're building weapons so that there is a deterance for the United States in attacking. The US made an example out of Iraq, and it was counterproductive in making military dictatorships unarm. It makes them want to arm themselves further for insurance in case the US want to attack. It's just another reason why the Iraq war was a mistake.
