it was painted in that manner so that we would dislike and afraid of that devil.if it is beautiful, it is not called devil but an angel.

It's use of symbolic representations. People who tended towards boosting discrimination encoraged devils to be black, and at a certain point, people have just forgotten that and accepted it. As for long tails, well, it's a male body part, usually.

Not to sound conceited, but I am brutally handsome. Haven't you heard of shape-shifting. If anyone reading this would like to see me---find the first 100 copies of The Eagles Hotel California double-wide album (that's vinyl record) and take a look up in the balcony. The Eagles were the first band to perform at the first church of "satan" founded in California in 1969. They actually did not perform there until Joe Walsh joined the band.
My birth certificate name is: Kenneth Wayne Howie, born 06/29/69 in Sacramento, California. I am 6' 4" and my weight fluctuates between 185 and 265 from time to time. My hair is dark brown---close to black---with red highlights, and long. Most of the time it is straight---sometimes wavy. Just try to find the rare album(s).

In medieval art, there used to be some kind of icons, that were always similar or the same in all kinds of religious
paintings; as Jesus is usually shown on a cross, so virgin
Mary is also recognizable through her typical clothes and standard poses, as in Italian paints or sculptures famous
"pieta", that always shows virgin Mary with dead Jesus' body
in her arms...And st.George is also a good example, he's
always shown in typical action of killing the dragon ( devil )
with his spear...Santa Lucia for example is painted with her eyes on a dish ( she was blinded by her torturers )...You see,
it's that kind of things ...

Well you have to first think of where the devil came from. Lucifer was once a leader of Angels in heaven and was cast to hell when he tried to take over. There really is no description (that I know) of any type of transformation.
As for the devil being painted black. Dunno.

The traditional depiction of the devil - horns, tail, cloved hooves - is a Christian one. Rumour has it that they based it on the pagan (rural) god Pan, in an attempt to convert pagans to Christianity, and also to make others suspicious of the pagan religion and to fear pagans.
