Because love gives you more satisfaction than money can. If you don't have love then no amount of riches can fill the void.
Here's the proof: look at celebrities who destroy themselves with drugs & alcohol. What do they have to be unhappy about? They have all the money & fame in the world. The truth is that if you don't love yourself, you don't feel loved by anyone else & life seems empty & meaningless. All the money & girls & fame & seemingly glamourous wonderful things & expensive toys can not make up for what you lack inside.
Love is necessary for survival. A baby will actually die from neglect if it doesn't get any physical contact in the first few years of life. Even if it has enough all other basic necessities. Cuddling is actually a necessity. Love nourishes the soul. Throughout our lives we still need love. Many people don't realize how important it is to love themselves. It is the key to happiness. If you don't love yourself, then you destroy yourself in various ways, you shut yourself off from others & are incapable of experiencing love. You feel empty, miserable, angry. Nothing can bring you satisfaction. Having money just makes it easier for you to get into trouble & buy things to destroy yourself (like narcotics).
If you have love, then yes money is a wonderful gift! I wish I could win the lottery & not have to work & be able to travel and spend time with those I love. But if you don't have love & aren't happy with yourself already, then even winning the lottery won't help you.

Well I look at it this way. The bible says it like this concerning money: 1 Timothy 6:10> For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
In addition to this, the bible also says: Hebrews 13:5> Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
The reason why God says that "he will never leave us, nor forsake us" is because he loves us. He went even so far as to prove that to us, that he suffered and died on the Cross, for us, because he loved us. If we proclaim our love is solely, for the love of money, not only are we are turning away from him, but we are also turning a deaf ear to his teachings and proclaiming that we no longer serve him, but rather Satan.
So all in all, in the end, I would choose Love over Money.

Love is an emotion that causes happiness, whereas money is a material resource symbolic of our ability to potentially attain happiness. In this way, love is a much more direct route to happiness, a true cause and effect because of brain chemistry. Money is a resource that allows us to provide what we need on a daily basis, but it does not guarantee happiness, and has actually been shown to have no bearing on happiness. This is why choosing love over money is emotionally more logical.

You Would Choose Love Money may buy a little happiness, but not the happiness of true love. You rather have a true soulmate than a private jet. And while many people may claim they would choose love too... You're one of the few who would really do it.

Basically it should boil down to which is better to own. Depending on our impending needs, one may score over the other in the immediate short term... in such a scenario neither can be invariably preferred.
In the longer term, ownership benefits would depend on storage and security. Money is difficult to store and secure for a long time, it could be stolen or spent off...... not so with love..... it matures over a period of time and no one can steal it away.

True...it really depends on your values, which would you prefer? Love or money? Well anyone can make money, but how much do you need to be happy? Two people can fall in love, but how long will it last? Love is valuable because happiness is really all that matters in life. Money is valuable because it gives you the ability to obtain things that you either need or want. True love cannot be purchased, but you can always earn money. So in the end love wins because it is more valuable than money simply because it is harder to obtain and maintain.

In the past many have said "Silver nor gold have I none, but the love of many means more than being just one" Sure you can buy things with money, But true friendships are hard to find and the love that comes from them is worth more than any amount of Silver or Gold. We as mortals sometimes forget that even the love of a child is worth so much to us that money can't buy the love that that child feels for oneself. With money comes many forms of greed and heart aches, that finding a true friend is very hard to do when greed is in any form of relationship, There are many things in this world that can not be bought by Silver or gold, if ones heart is in the right place, Sure money helps to make things better for ourselves in our daily lives, but to have so much money and no one to be there when your feeling down and out is very lonely and sometimes depressing to the point where it can make a person do a something stupid and take their own life. We as mortals can have have the best merchandise that money can buy and show off these things, just to be a show off or be corrupted by material things. But in the end...... it's worthless without having someone to share your life with and receive the love that comes within the heart of someone dear. (Copyrights pending)

Money can't buy you happiness - it's as simple as that. It may make things easier, but it won't buy you contentment. Love may not pay the bills, but at least it's easier to deal with them if you have someone in there pitching with you. I don't know if that qualifies as "philosophical" exactly; it's just based on my own experiences with love, money, and the world in general.

The two are not necessarily incompatible. Those who love money, choose money as their love. While this indeed is a skewed perception of love, those who truly love money feel no loss.
