bit of both, bad management by playing lennon on left and not giving him a stint on the right. also should have given defoe more than 10 mins. bad football, rooney was shite, midfield looked like they had no idea how to break through, also lampard, again missed a good chance through bad control , if that was against spurs he would have buried it, bench him and put in someone who can pass the ball, probably carrick.

Look at it like this. The players such as Lampard, Gerrard, Terry and Rooney are great players at their clubs because their respective managers know how to get the best from them.
Mclaren clearly doesnt have a clue how to motivate them or make them into a cohesive force. He looks out of his depth when he is in the dugout during games.

I lay the blame squarely at McClaren's door. These players perform well week in week out for their clubs but when they put on an England shirt it goes out the door. They didnt suddenly become bad players overnight so it has to be down to tactics and/or not playing them in their correct roles. Lennon on the left wing? Johnson almost completely unsupported? When was the last time Lampard played well for England? Seems to me that the so called "senior players" are untouchable and cannot be dropped or subbed.

The players have to take a fair share of the blame as it is up to them to perform and there were enough top class pro's out there to do just that. However McLaren has to shoulder some responsibility as it is up to him to change it if it isn't working and he just doesn't do that! If plan A does not work then he doesn't have a plan B. It is just like watching Sven all over again!!

Before I answer to this question I'd like to ask a question; Why is it that Chelsea is winning trophies not because of the manager but because they have world class players?

The national team has more than 5 players that are considered one of the best players in the world and I can assure you that it may make a better team comparing to one of the best clubs in the world... so we need to understand that no matter how good the players are they need a coach who's as good as them and not a coach coming from a small team to manage them and that's the result.

we can never blame players in this case no wonder Madrid with world class players they changed more than 4 coaches and still think of chaning because they can't win anything.

Thanx!

We lost coz all the players believe all the hype that the media put on them. They are nothing more than a bunch of sissy boys. I would give some of the under 21's a shot, at least they can score goals.................oh wait a min hid did call one up to the squad but didn't play him.

the result was down to the level of expectancy,we are renound for getting to a crunch game and completely bottling it!that wasn't even a crunch game either.no one seemed to have any respect for the opposition, yet they had scored 3 times against the croats!

I think its both, MacLaren doesnt seem to have an Air of Authority over the players, and i think morale seems to be low in the English camp at the moment

How amusing would it be if Scotland qualified from thier group and England failed
