I just returned from Pondy Yesterday (25-Mar) and the shortest route is : BLR-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Chengam-Thiruvanamalai-Gingee-Tindivanam-PONDY. (330 km from Hosur flyover to Pondy welcome arch)
The road is smooth in almost all places except :
50 km on NH66 from Krishnagiri to Thiruvanamalai .
Town of Thiruvanamali , where the NH66 disappears
the country side is scenic and you;ll enjoy the monkey groups at places.
Enjoy the drive.
Do Visit the temple at Thiruvanamalai - it is famous !

But i always prefer via Chennai. bangalore to chennai and from chennai to pondicherry. But thats always because i have friends in chennai aswell.
