It really depends how old you are. It takes some girls many years to develop regular periods. Also, if you exercise a lot that can cause missed periods. The brown color just means it is older blood, not new blood. You should make an appointment with a gynecologist if you are over 16 yrs old and they are very helpful with answering those type of questions and will tell you what is normal. Hope that helps!

Firstly, you should go and see your doctor who will probably refer to a gynaecology specialist. You should get tested for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) see website link below.

Rest ashore you are not only with this condition. I myself have this problem. I started having irregular periods as a teenager and basically became absent.

I kind of forgot about not having periods..till I was told by my parents to get the pill when I started University at 18. And when asked by my doctor the timing of my periods...I said to her....I don't know I haven't had one since I was 15...straight after that....her sent me to the best gynaecologist who tested me and diagnosed me as having the PCOS symptoms.

It can be a blessing because you don't have to worry about sudden periods or getting preg and can play a whole range of sports... but than it can becomes a issue when you have reached your late 20s and looking at having a family.

So make sure you get it checked out...the longer you leave it it the worst it can get..I read somewhere that if not treated it can have the potential of becoming cancerous. I don't believe there is treatment for it - but rather its about maintaining a particular lifestyle.

Get it checked out. - here if you need support.

I just went to see the docs about this same kind of thing myself.....
they told me that when you stop having periods for months at a time it builds up in you
thus when you finally do get it that is why it is so dark becuase it's from the months past that you didnt get it.
it's not out of the ordinary but the docs suggested i go on birth control to regulate mine or you can just leave it be.
good luck

It can be normal because not all women have the same cycle and symptoms. You should have a blood test to determine if you have a hormone imbalance. Sometimes your doctor will prescribe low-dose birth control pills to regulate your periods

my daughter has the same problem, she has polycystic ovarian syndrom (pcos). basically her ovaries are enlarged and she doesnt ovulate properly. her body gets ready for a period but it rarely happens. she takes birth control to force her body to menstrate, there is more evasive actions but with her being a teen i chose this. it can hinder having children but its not impossible. go to the doc and they should be able to tell you if you have the symptoms and get you an ultrasound.

This is not normal and could be caused by a hormone imbalance. This needs to be evaluated by your dr to try and find the cause of this.

Excercise more & you won't have that problem. Everyone is different, & that might be normal for you.
